This Week In Online Retail where I share key happenings in the world of online retail, things we have learned in my business recently, and other items that I believe you will find useful and valuable.

Here are this week's updates:

Amazon is continuing to make announcements about what type of rebates, coupons, and marketing incentives are allowed on the platform. Last week there was a post by an Amazon forum moderator with some additional details on these policies. This isn't the normal channel for this type of announcement, so it should be taken with a grain of salt, but it does appear in line with avoiding product ranking manipulation on Amazon.

In what could be a glimpse into the future of retail, Walmart is partnering with Facebook to use an augmented reality lens to help consumers determine what products to buy. The lens is used to determine when products "spark joy" on the faces of consumers by reading their facial reactions. You can read more in this Retail Dive article.

eBay is in the process of rolling out a long-awaited feature to require buyers to provide a payment method that will be charged when submitting an offer on a buy it now or best offer listing. Prior to this, it was common for a seller to accept an offer from a buyer and then have the buyer decide not to pay for the item. This will alleviate that problem and is great to see. Hopefully, eBay will do something similar with bids on auctions in the future. More details can be found on this in Rock Star Flipper's YouTube video.
